[Ramadhan Countdown:40 Days Left!] F.A.Q About Islam-Ramadhan Special pt 1

Q: What is Ramadhan, and why it is so special to the Muslim?

A: Ramadhan is on of the month in the Muslim calendar. It was called Ramadhan because usually it was scorching hot during this month. It is considered as special to Muslim because fasting or known as Sawm/Saum was obligated during this month only.Allah says:

"O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (The pious one).[Observing Fast] is for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskin (poor person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast is better for you if only you know. The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must glorify Allah for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him. " (2:183-185)

Q:How do Muslim Recognize the arrival of Ramadhan?

A:It is determined by sight seeing the crescent or new moon kniwn as Ru'yah Al-Hilal,indicating the Ramadhan had arrived.Allah says:

"...So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you..." (2:185).

It is also determined by the astrological counting called Al-Hisab.This was done by the astrologist.

Q:How do Muslim fasts?

A:Fasting is done by to abstain from eating and drinking from the beginning of the dawn or from the adzan(Call to Prayer) of Dawn Prayer was said by the muazzin (people who say the Adzan aloud at the mosque) until the Adzan of Maghrib (Dusk) Prayer was called.Apart of eating and drinking, they were also prohibited from having sex, smoking and saying bad things.

Q:I have a Muslimah friend who does not fast several days in Ramadhan ,is it permissible for her?Is there any reason that a Muslim may not fast in Ramadhan?

A:There are several reasons where a Muslim will be given an excuse not to fast under several circumstances, that is:

1)Menstruation.

2)Someone who suffers from a serious sickness that have almost no chance to heal, or havng any sicknesses that will harm him if he/she is fasting

3)On a long,tiring journey.
Other than these reason,it was invalid for a Muslim to break his/her fast
